PATNA: The Patna University Retired Teachers’ Association has urged the state government to take immediate steps for revising the pension of retired teachers in the light of the 7th central pay commission recommendations effective from January 2016.
In separate memoranda to the chief minister and education minister, the association said the Union HRD ministry, vide it s letter dated June 11 to the principal secretaries of state 'education departments, advised implementation of the revised payscales for working and retired teachers of colleges and universities. The ministry’s letter was also endorsed by the UGC on June 19, 2018.
According to the association, clauses 20 and 30 of the Bihar State University Retirement Statutes, assented to by the govor-cum-chancellor in 1980, clearly provide that the university pensioners would get the same pension and other retirement benefits as given to the state government pensioners.
Even though the pension of government servants in Bihar has been revised more than a year ago and all the arrears have been paid to them, the retired university teachers are yet to be given their pension at the revised rate.
Earlier, an executive committee meeting of the association on Thursday demanded payment of medical allowance of Rs 1,000 per month to the retired teachers on a par with that paid to government pensioners so that they could meet at least partial cost of their medical treatment at their ripe age.
Those who attended the meeting included B N Singh, J P Singh,Lallan Dubey, H B P Sinha, C P Singh and S K Ganguli.
