Bon Voyage on Wheels! Get ready with your Bags!!

Get ready to travel and explore in your 2nd innings

Grow old along with me!

The best is yet to be,

The last of life, for which the first was made:

Our times are in His hand

Who said "A whole I planned,

Youth shows but half…''

Rabbi Ben Ezra

BY ROBERT BROWNING)

The first part of your life is over, so plunge into action to begin an exciting second innings; and the pitch is ready. But how to do it? Sitting home and getting glued to your TV sets?

But it’s not, of course, going to give you something that you wanted in your youth not only in letter but also in spirit. So, remember Robert Browning: Youth has shown just the half of your life, and the other half is awaiting you with open arms. So, make a bon voyage on iron wheels and discover your country.

Railways has come up with many facilities for your second innings. These facilities are extended to men who are a minimum of 60 years and women of minimum 58 years of age. They are granted concession in fares of all classes of trains. The concession is 40% of the fare for men and 50% of the fare for women. As per the current system of booking, no proof of age is required at the time of purchasing tickets.

However, during the journey the senior citizen is required to carry prescribed documentary proof issued by any government agency showing their age or date of birth. In case the senior citizen is not able to produce the requisite proof of age during the journey, he/she is charged the difference of fare between full fare and concessional fare.Apart from the concession in fares, certain other facilities are also extended. There are provisions for passenger reservation system (PRS) to allot lower berths, wheelchairs at stations, and separate counters at PRS centers for you.

Apart from this, Senior citizens are also provided a facility to get confirmed lower berths under Senior Citizen Quota. There is, therefore, no reason for you to waste the rest of your life sitting home, as it little profits an idle king. The snow-clad mountains, the forested valleys, warbles of colourful birds, the gorgeous sunrise and sunset in the oceans, and the beautiful temples are calling you from different nooks of the country.

What you have to do is to make a plan to see something that you wanted to but could not translate it into reality because of your busy schedule. But the time has come. Your health insurance card is with you; you have to pack up your bags, and set out of your homes to respond to the world that is calling you.

In your youth, you have been the music makers, and after you have passed that stage, you have turned into dreamers of dreams: that’s what God has planned for all of us.Remember what Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore said, “Thou hast made me known to friends whom I knew not. Thou hast given me seats in homes not my own. Thou hast brought the distant near and made a brother of the stranger.”

So, without any delay buy a ticket for you and your spouse, leave the four walls of your homes; and drink life to the lees.
